Ed Chan is a veteran in NYC's food & wine scene, who started his career in the late nineties. He earned his restaurant & wine chops with stints at famed restaurants: Smith & Wollensky, Quality Meats, the Redeye Grill and the BLT group. For over half a decade, he worked for the Hillstone/Houston's Restaurant Group in myriad capacities: service manager, wine director, bar manager, R&D-cocktails, and corporate trainer.
After retiring from the grueling restaurant business, Ed worked as an independent consultant. He served as brand ambassadors for Coppola, Justin, and Landmark wineries. He currently does wine consulting, private sommelier and catering work, and teaches food and beverage classes, both in person and online.
Ed holds a master's degree from Cornell's Johnson School of Business (Hotel Program), and is a Certified Sommelier with the Sommelier Society of America. As a beer aficionado, he is also a first level beer cicerone.
When he isn't teaching, he enjoys cooking with his wife, his rum & cokes, rooting for his Green Bay Packers, and volunteer for the Guidedog Foundation for the Blind. He has three children: Babe, a black lab retired from the program, and feline siblings Diesel and Francis (Persians).
